Lucca's Medieval Walls

Lucca's charm lies mostly in its 12 m high medieval walls. These walls
are wide enough at the top that they are lined with chestnut trees and
have a bike path.

The main historic center is mostly off limits to cars so the people of
Lucca get around town on bikes. Everyone has a bike practically. Even
we rented one to get our luggage back to the train station with less
effort (no buses, they only have routes on the main roads just inside
the walls.
